A Healthy Virginia Lawns program

Home Turf Logo

If you are having concerns about your home lawn, learn what you can do to maintain a healthy lawn. Trained Master Gardeners from our Home Turf, a Healthy Virginia Lawns Program, answer your lawn care questions and provide you research-based and environmentally sound information about maintaining your lawn.

  • Volunteers conduct on-site visits to evaluate your turfgrass, measure the lawn area and prepare a map, and collect one or more soil samples.
  • Soil test results are sent to the Virginia Tech Soil Lab for analysis and a personalized 3-year Nutrient Management Plan will be developed for the lawn.
  • Master Gardeners will discuss the plan with the homeowner and answer questions regarding proper lawn maintenance in Fairfax County.

Although fall is the best time to repair, rejuvenate, or renovate your yard, we have reached our capacity for the 2025 Home Turf Program. Application for the 2025 program is now closed, but we will reopen May 1, 2026 for next year.
